Thousands of employees and women teachers of private educational institutions in Kerala will soon get benefits under the Maternity Benefit Act. Kerala will become the first state in the country to bring maternity benefit legislation to private educational institutions. The Center has approved a request to issue a notification to extend the benefits of this Act to employees of private educational institutions in the state.
According to the official release, the state cabinet in its meeting on 29 August had decided to seek the permission of the central government to issue a notification to give this benefit to employees of private educational institutions. Under this act, thousands of private education sector employees in the state can also get the benefit of 26 weeks maternity leave with salary like government employees.
The employer will have to pay 1000 rupees for such medical expenses to such employees. Private sector workers in the state had been demanding maternity benefits for a long time.
