Cyclone Nisarga: Cyclone Nisarg hit the shores of Maharashtra on Wednesday afternoon.  During this time, reports of rain and strong winds are coming in many places.  NDRF chief SN Chaudhary said in a tweet that cyclonic storm Nisarg caused landfall near Alibag, 100 km from Mumbai, this afternoon.  He has also shared some pictures, in which trees are seen falling amidst heavy rain and strong winds.  At the same time, the Meteorological Department said that the process of landfall will be completed in an hour.  During this time, heavy rains and strong winds were seen in Alibag in Raigad district.  NDRF teams are present on the occasion and people have been shifted to relief camps.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department said in its tweet, "The center of the cyclone is very close to the Maharashtra coast. The process of landslide has started and it will continue for the next three hours."  According to the Meteorological Department, the impact of this storm can cause strong winds and heavy rains in the next 12 hours at a speed of 100 to 120 km per hour, besides landslides.

NDRF Director General SN Pradhan told ANI that in view of the cyclone, about 43 NDRF teams have been deployed in Gujarat and Maharashtra, out of which 21 are in Maharashtra.  About 1 lakh people have been evacuated from the cyclone sites.

Meanwhile, the police, by issuing orders late last night, prevented people from taking a walk along the Mumbai coastline along public places like beaches, parks.

According to the Meteorological Department, this is the first cyclone in the last century to hit the coast of Maharashtra.  Earlier in 1948 and 1980, the cyclone was hit twice but it did not hit the coast, weakened in the sea itself.
