A court here refused to grant anticipatory bail to Badal Chaudhary, a CPI-M central committee member and former Tripura PWD minister, for his alleged role in the Rs 600-crore PWD scam. An arrest warrant has been issued against Chaudhary for his alleged role in the scam.
Sessions Judge Sabyasachi Purkayastha of West Tripura said that the former minister cannot be relieved. Chaudhary's lawyer P Roy Burman told reporters that he would move the Tripura High Court against not giving anticipatory bail.
A former chief engineer of the state's Public Works Department was arrested for his alleged role in financial irregularities in the work of the Public Works Department (PWD) after which the former minister on Monday requested anticipatory bail from the sessions court.
West Tripura Superintendent of Police Ajit Pratap Singh said former PWD chief engineer Sunil Bhowmick has been taken into custody while arrest warrants have been issued against former minister Chaudhary and former chief secretary Yashpal Singh.
