West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has named Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricket team captain and BCCI's president, as 'Apna Boy' of Bengal. Mamta's statement came amid speculation that Saurabh could step into politics. Recently, rumors started flying after Sourav Ganguly met Home Minister Amit Shah.
Mamta said on Wednesday, 'Sourav is our own boy. We are in touch with each other. We also messaged each other yesterday. Sourav came to meet me before Durga Puja. I will talk to them later too. '
Earlier on Tuesday, Sourav Ganguly said in Kolkata, breaking the news of his proximity to Amit Shah, 'I have met him (Amit Shah) for the first time. Neither did I ask him to do anything to influence my claim as the President of BCCI nor did he ask me to do anything in return for his election as the President. It has nothing to do with politics.
On Wednesday, Mamta Banerjee said, 'There are many things from which Bengalis feel proud. Mother Teresa, Amartya Sen and Abhijeet Banerjee are from Bengal and have received the Nobel Prize. Similarly, Sourav Ganguly is the second person after Jagmohan Dalmiya of Bengal who is going to become the BCCI President.
