Two influential Democratic lawmakers in the US requested Pakistan to refrain from taking "any retaliatory action" against India and take "concrete action" against terrorist groups in their country.
Pakistan on Wednesday expelled Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria, calling India's move to lift special status of Jammu and Kashmir "unilateral and illegal" and curtailed political relations with New Delhi. Senator Robert Menendez and Congress member Elliott Angel also expressed concern over restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement on Wednesday. Menendez is the apex member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee while Angel is the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. "Pakistan should refrain from taking any kind of retaliatory action, including helping to infiltrate the Line of Control and take concrete action against the terrorist structure on the territory of Pakistan," he said in the statement.
Expressing concern, the MPs said that being the largest democracy in the world, India has the freedom of assembly, information to all its citizens. Access and opportunity to protect equal rights, including equal protection under the law and show them the importance of promoting. He said, "Transparency and political participation are the cornerstones of representative democracies and we expect the Indian government to follow these principles in Jammu and Kashmir."
