The 71-year-old RK Studio in Chembur, Mumbai is now just on paper. On Thursday, August 8, 2019, the studio was grounded. Now real estate veteran Godrej Properties has named this area in its name. The studio was founded in 1948 by actor, director and producer Raj Kapoor.
There was a plan to sell RK Studio long back. Actually, in August last year, the Kapoor family revealed plans to sell RK Studios. He told that the maintenance cost of this property spread over 2.2 acres is very high. This is the reason why he decided to sell the studio. According to some reports, when the studio caught fire in 2017, the Kapoor family decided to sell it.
Now this studio has been bought by Godrej Properties Limited. It is reported that it will soon be used for multi-purpose project. Many Bollywood celebrities have given their reaction to the news of the end of this iconic studio.
