New Delhi: In the exit polls after the Lok Sabha elections, there is good news for the ruling BJP and the NDA alliance. Most of the exits are projecting the formation of the NDA government. If the results come on as many as exit polls on May 23, then it is likely that the NDA's Kunba will be increased. Indeed, the BJD has given such signs. Amar Patnaik of the BJD said, "We will probably support a party or a coalition which forms the government at the center and agrees to resolve some of the unresolved and long pending issues of Odisha."
In Odisha BJP is estimated to get 12 seats, Congress 1 and BJD 8 seats. BJP is estimated to win 42%, Congress + 21.8%, BJD 33.2%. According to Chanakya, in Odisha, BJD is estimated to be 7 and BJP 14 seats. This time, estimates of BJP's magnificent performance in Odisha. In 2014, BJP won only 1 seat, while BJD won 20 seats.
Recently, party vice-president Surya Narayan Patro claimed that the party would support the coalition which will ensure the special category status of the state. This announcement is different from the party's stance months before the general elections. Naveen Patnaik had claimed before his election that his party would maintain equal distances from both the BJP and the Congress.
It is notable here that Naveen Patnaik's BJD was earlier a part of NDA. Patnaik himself had worked as a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet. The BJD formed the coalition government with the BJP in Odisha from 2000 to 2009. In the 2009 elections, the BJD had declared BJP a 'communal party' and won elections in the state with two consecutive clear majority in 2009 and 2014.
