Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joins the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the General Elections .
The 7 phase Elections are scheduled to take place between April 11 and May 19, with the counting holding on May 23.
The former cricketer announced his retirement in December 2018.
Since then Gambhir has been very vocal about his support to the ruling government at the Centre, and has often lauded the policies and decisions taken by the BJP.
During his joining address on Friday Gautam Gambhir said, "I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi's vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform."
