Cyclone Nisarga is moving fast along the coasts of Maharashtra and Gujarat and this afternoon it will hit the coast in Alibag, 100 km from Mumbai.  During this time, winds can move at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour.  There is also a possibility of a landfall.  The Meteorological Department says that in 12 hours, Cyclone Nisarg will turn into a severe cyclonic storm.  During this time, heavy rains and winds will move at a speed of 110 km per hour.  As a precaution, more than 10,000 people have been taken to safer places.  Mumbai is on alert regarding nature.  Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and assured them of all possible help.

According to the Meteorological Department, this is the first Cyclone Nisarga in a century to hit the coast of Maharashtra.  Earlier in 1948 and 1980, the cyclone was hit twice but it did not hit the coast, weakened in the sea itself.  Cyclone Nisarg, caused by low air pressure in the Arabian Sea, is expected to reach the coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat on the afternoon of 3 June.  For this, the administration is alert in all coastal areas including Mumbai.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has appealed to the people to stay in the houses for the next two days in view of the cyclone nature.  He said that there is a possibility of heavy rain for the next two days.  He appealed to the people to keep their medicines with them, keep the battery charged as electricity may have to be cut off somewhere.
According to the Meteorological Department, wind speed can be between 100 and 120 kilometers per hour during the impact of a cyclonic storm.  Due to this effect, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar will get strong rains.  The NDRF team has been deployed in all the 750 km long coastline of Maharashtra.  Considering the potential losses, 16 teams have been deployed.  Apart from this, five additional teams have also been called.  More than 30 NDRF teams have been deployed in Maharashtra and Gujarat, including coastal areas.  There are 45 people in a team.
It is estimated that Nisarg will cross the Harihareshwar coast near Alibag in Daman and Raigad district on the afternoon of 3 June.  During this, there was a warning of heavy rain with stormy winds.  The administration is vigilant in all coastal areas including Mumbai.  The drive to take the people living in kutcha houses to safe places has been intensified.
Mumbai, its suburbs and neighboring districts of Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have been placed on high alert due to cyclone discharge.  The fishermen have been called back from the sea.  The fishermen have been banned from going into the sea.  About six feet high waves can rise in the sea.
