In 1986, the legendary New Zealand fast bowler Richard Hadley had to offer his teammates a one-week holiday at their expense to keep the car they had received as prizes. Hadley won the 'International Cricketer of the Year' award for his outstanding performance in the 1985–86 Test Series in Australia and won the 'Alpha Romeo Saloon' car.
New Zealand won the first Test series in Australia. But there was a small problem in taking it home that New Zealand used to put all the cash prize in the team fund. Therefore, he had to spend as much as the cost of this car to his fellow players to spend the holidays.
Recalling the incident, Hadley told Ian Smith on the 'Sky Sports' podcast, 'There was a prize distribution ceremony at the Sydney Cricket Ground and I was given the key to the car and they were about to send the car to New Zealand, so I thought it was good.'
