Sri Lankan cricketer Shehan Madushanka, who took a hat-trick in his debut ODI match, has been arrested on charges of possessing heroin, following which Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is planning to terminate his contract.
The medium-speed fast bowler and a friend of his were arrested on 23 May on charges of possessing a narcotic post. The magistrate in Kuliyapitiya of North-Western Province ordered him to be placed on remand till 2 June.
SCL Chief Executive Officer Ashley DeSilva said, "We have not yet been officially informed about this." He is a contracted player. If the charge against him is proved, we will take action to cancel his contract. '
The 25-year-old bowler has taken a hat-trick in his debut match against Bangladesh in 2018. He became the fourth bowler to do so in ODI cricket.
Shehan Madushanka made history in this match by taking hat-trick off Mashrafe Mortaza, Rubel Hussain and Mahmudullah in consecutive balls. Apart from ODIs, he has played two T20 Internationals.
