Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Sunday that former Supreme Court judge (retd) Fakir Mohammad Khokhar has been elected as an independent judge to hear the ban on cricketer Omar Akmal.

The PCB has imposed a three-year ban on Omar Akmal for violating corruption related rules. The PCB said that independent judges will now decide when to hear the case.

Earlier, Jio TV had said that Akmal has appointed a lawyer for the case from the firm of Babar Awan who is the prime minister and advisor for parliamentary affairs.

Akmal is accused of violating two rules of Article 2.4.4 of the PCB on 17 March. On April 9, after the batsman did not appeal to the anti-corruption court, the matter was referred to the chairman of the Independent Discipline Committee.

Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, the chairman of this committee, gave his decision in this matter to the PCB. Chauhan had imposed a three-year ban on Akmal for violation of both rules, which came into force from 20 February 2020.
