Former opener Herschelle Gibbs has decided to auction his special bat to raise money for the fight against the Kovid-19 epidemic. This is the bat from which South Africa achieved a record target against Australia on the basis of their innings of 175 runs in 2006.
South Africa had won 438 runs for nine wickets with one ball remaining in the decisive match of that series against Australia. Australia, batting first in this match, scored 434 runs for four wickets.
Gibbs tweeted, 'Supersports is showing that match. I will auction the bat I used in that match for Kovid-19 fund. I have kept it for so many years.
Gibbs hit 21 fours and seven sixes in his 111-ball innings in this match. The former 46-year-old cricketer has played 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals for South Africa.
