Indian Railways has canceled all tickets booked for general passenger trains for journeys up to June 30, including mail / express trains and suburban services. Full fare will be refunded to all passengers. The railway gave this information in a statement on Thursday. However, the Railways said that during this period, the 'Shramik' trains run to take migrant laborers to their homes and 15 pairs of special trains running between New Delhi and major stations will continue to operate.
Earlier on Wednesday, Railways had announced the introduction of waiting tickets in special trains from May 22. Railway Board on Wednesday issued an order to start the provision of waiting list for travel in not only its current special trains, but also all upcoming trains. In the present special trains only confirmed tickets are being booked, while there will be a provision for booking tickets in the waiting list in the booking of tickets from May 15 for the trips starting from May 22. Now waiting tickets will be deducted up to 20 in 1 AC, 20 in executive class, 50 in 2AC, 100 in 3AC, 100 in AC chair car and 200 in slipper.
According to PTI, Indian Railways will lose Rs 1,490 crore for the cancellation of 94 lakh tickets booked by passengers before the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of corona virus.
Top railway officials told PTI that an amount of Rs 830 crore will be refunded for the 55 lakh tickets booked for the journey between March 22 and April 14. Railways had suspended its passenger train services on a large scale on March 22, three days before the 21-day lockdown was implemented.
