Almost after 50days of lockdown barbers begin home services.
Social distancing norms have shut down saloons and barbers are suffering a livelihood loss. Equipped with their tool kits , Sly barbering is one of the hottest trends in the city.
A Kolkata based barber , Litton Seal reveals, "Customers are call me up for grooming. I have no option but to go out for business. It is almost 50days my shop is closed. Being the sole breadearner my household is suffering majorly."
Litton has a shop in Behala and pre-lockdown he earned nearly Rs.1000-1500 per day, which curbed down to Rs.100-150 .
"I receive calls from regular customers. I take one or two appointments then go back home", added Litton.
As temperatures continue to rise people are in a complete disruption of their grooming routines and desperately in need for a trim.
"I went almost a month without haircut . All the salons are shut so I had to call the barber home," said Sajeev Roy , resident of Behala.
Though social distancing is not possible, the barbers ensure than they take necessary preventive measures like wearing masks while providing their services.
Another resident Mukti Roy lives with ailing father-in-law who cannot in anyway walk out of the house for a trim. "We requested our barber to come amidst lockdown and police patrolling because it was necessary," said Roy.
Although, sly barbering has raised the normal rates and to some extend defy the norms of social distancing, but grooming is something people cannot do without.
