PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome is a common hormonal disorder in women.  It is usually identified by having irregular periods or missing periods, abnormal hairs on the face, neck, back of the body or abdomen like men.  In the case of PCOS, it is very difficult for a woman to become a mother.  Because during pregnancy they are more at risk of getting copulation.  However, it is also true that many women, despite suffering from PCOS, can still be pregnant by controlling their symptoms and can give birth to a healthy baby.
It is also important to know that PCOS and pregnancy related problems are also real.  Therefore, to ensure healthy pregnancy, it is necessary for women to know the right information and tools related to it.  Let us know what Dr. Garima Sawhney, a senior gynecologist as a gynecologist and co-founder of Pristine Care, is recommending to women who are trying to become pregnant with PCOS.
 What is PCOS?

Simply put, PCOS is a condition in which a woman's body starts producing more number of male hormones called androgens, due to which the problem of hormonal imbalance in her body is exposed.  This condition disrupts the normal menstrual cycle and can also cause ovarian cysts.

PCOS is also known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome.  It is a common disease that affects 1 in 10 women.  PCOS usually goes unnoticed.  Most of the time this is revealed when a woman is unable to become a mother even after trying for a long time.  The following factors can cause PCOS:

 Obesity

This is the biggest and common cause of PCOS.  In addition to PCOS, obesity also increases the risk of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
Insulin resistance

When cells are not able to use insulin properly, then the problem of insulin resistance is revealed.  Pancreas produces insulin according to the needs of the body, due to which a male hormone called ovary androgen begins to produce.

 Genetic

Heredity plays an important role in PCOS.  Several genes may contribute to this condition.  Women whose family has already suffered from PCOS are at greater risk of having this problem.

 Excess inflammation in the body

Women suffering from PCOS have excessive inflammation in the body due to which the androgen level increases.  Obesity causes inflammation in the body.  PCOS usually causes women to become pregnant.  However, even if she becomes pregnant then she may have to face a lot of problems during pregnancy.

There is a problem of miscarriage and pre term birth

Women who have PCOS problems are at increased risk of miscarriage and pre-term birth.  In the case of a preterm birth, the child is delivered within 37 weeks of pregnancy.  Also, women may have preeclampsia.  In this condition, women are also at increased risk of blood pressure and gestational diabetes (diabetes) after 20 weeks of pregnancy.  Gestational diabetes is a problem that occurs only in pregnant women and children, which further increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the life of mother and child.

Due to advancement in medical science, today we have many options that can help women to become healthy mothers without facing any problems.  I am giving some medicines and treatment options that you can use to become pregnant with PCOS and give birth to a healthy baby.
