The Serum Institute of Pune has predicted a corona vaccine by September-October. The vaccine is expected to hit the market after undergoing human testing. 34-year-old Chandra Dutta of Kolkata origin in the capital of West Bengal has been instrumental in developing the vaccine.
Dutta lives in Oxford and is working as an Assurance Manager at the university producing the vaccine. Dutta, who completed her schooling and graduation in engineering and biotechnology, holds an MSc-Bioscience (Biotechnology) degree from the University of Leeds, UK. He has since played a variety of roles in Oxford University's clinical bio-manufacturing facility.
The University's clinical bio-manufacturing facility produces a viral vector vaccine for early-stage clinical trials. Dutta oversees the quality side of these vaccines. She decides whether the procedures and methods followed in making the vaccine have been followed. Apart from this, she also oversees the practice of manufacturing the vaccine properly.
Dutta said that everyone was under pressure for the past one month regarding the Corona virus vaccine. We saw it very quickly. This is a massive effort by the entire team behind it. He said that it usually takes four years to make the vaccine but we will complete it in a few months. So far, we have developed 600 vaccines. Right now we can make one thousand more vaccines after which it can be taken for mass production.
