The US Senate on Wednesday acquitted the nation's President Donald Trump on allegations of misuse of office and obstructing Congress (Parliament) action.
After several weeks of investigations into the allegations against Trump, the Democratic House majority House of Representatives indicted the president in December for misuse of office and obstructing congressional action.
In the Republican-majority Senate, 52 lawmakers voted to acquit Trump and 48 voted against him in the case of abuse of office. At the same time, 53 MPs voted to acquit Trump from the charge of obstructing the Congress action and 47 to convict him in the case.
Republican Mitt Romney voted against Trump in the misuse of office, but in favor of acquitting Trump in the case of obstructing congressional action.
Trump is accused of pressuring Ukraine to conduct an investigation against his political rival Joe Biden just before the 2020 presidential election.
Earlier, the Congress party led by the Democratic Party passed the motion of impeachment against Trump for abusing the powers by a majority of 230-197. Along with this, the proposal of impeachment was also passed to interfere in the work of Congress against him.
With this, the 73-year-old Trump is the third president in American history against whom the motion for impeachment has been passed. The two other presidents were Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson.
The Republican Party has a majority in the Senate and there is a majority of Democratic Party leaders in Congress.
