The US ambassador to Germany said on Sunday that President Donald Trump had warned that the US would stop sharing confidential information with countries that had ties with China's technology company Huawei. Washington is pressuring affiliates to ban next-generation 5G mobile data networks brought by Huawei, one of the world's largest technology companies.
The US says it is a security threat. Ambassador Richard Grenell said Trump had instructed him to 'make it clear that if a country chooses a dishonest 5G vendor, it will jeopardize our ability to share intelligence and information at the highest level.' Twitter said that the President sent this message to him on Sunday from his special aircraft Airforce One.
America's major allies in Europe, especially Britain and France, have said that they will not ban Huawei's 5G network but will impose certain restrictions on it. Publicly, the US has given a moderate response to this, but Trump is reportedly angry with Britain. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said at the security conference in Munich on Saturday that Huawei is a Trojan horse for China's intelligence agencies. However, Huawei has categorically denied these allegations.
