The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to hear a petition requesting the removal of protesters protesting against the amended citizenship law in Shaheen Bagh.  The petition said that the roads were closed due to the protesters, causing traffic on the DND route.  The application in the form of a handwritten letter was mentioned before the bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice C Harishankar who refused to consider it.

The letter written by Tushar Sahadev and Raman Kalra stated that the routes from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, Delhi to Uttarakhand, Delhi to Noida Hospitals, Ashram and Badarpur are not in use due to this demonstration because around Shaheen Bagh  Roads are closed and the route for vehicles has been diverted to DND flyover.  The letter said that lakhs of people are upset due to the roads being blocked and it is also a problem for those trapped in an emergency.

The application said that the demonstration started on December 14, 2019 is affecting several lakh vehicles which are not being allowed to pass through this route.
It has been claimed that the protesters have laid blockages on the roads and heavy stones along the roads and pedestrians are also not being allowed to pass through here.  The petition said that the protesters damaged road dividers and other public properties on the roads, causing damage to the exchequer.  It requested to direct that these demonstrations be asked to be held in the authorized demonstration areas and that too without causing damage to property.  The court was appealed to direct the removal of the blockers to facilitate the use of routes for the people.

Thousands of people, including women and children, are protesting at the Shaheen Bagh and nearby Jamia Millia Islamia in protest against the CAA and NRC.
