Rain and thunderstorms have extinguished long-standing fires in the forests of eastern Australia, but have led to the possibility of flooding in some areas.  Outbreaks of heavy fires continue in the forests of the south and southeast regions of the country as there has been no rain so far.  It also includes wildlife-rich forests on Kangaroo Island on the southern coast.

 The fire service of the country's most populous New South Wales state, which has been hit by the crisis, said the fire continued to burn in 75 places on Saturday, even though the number was more than 100 a few days ago.  The rural fire service of the state said that the rains have been raining continuously at the fire places.  The favorable conditions created due to rain and low temperatures are helping in the efforts to control the fire at the remaining places.
