At least four airmen were injured in a rocket attack targeting the army's Balad Air Force base in Salahuddin province of Iraq on Sunday. Earlier, this military base was used by the US Army, although there are no reported casualties of any American soldier in this attack.
The Balad Air Force Base is about 90 kilometers from the capital Baghdad. Balad is the largest military base in Iraq and is known as the Anaconda, a logistic support activity in the US military. No group has claimed responsibility for this attack yet.
Qasim Sulemani, the head of the Kurdish force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in a drone strike near Baghdad's international air in a campaign on January 3 on the instructions of US President Donald Trump.
According to the US, Sulaimani was planning to attack American diplomats and soldiers in Iraq and West Asia. He had carried out several attacks on coalition bases in Iraq over the past few months, including the December 27 attack. American and Iraqi personnel were casualties in this attack. General Suleimani also approved the attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad on 31 December.
