Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Earl Eddings has ruled out any possibility of Steve Smith being named captain again. Smith has returned to the Australian team after a one-year ban. He played a key role in helping Australia win by 251 runs by scoring a century in both innings of the first Ashes Test against England.
The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Eddings as saying, "This is not even in our plan. We already have a captain who is doing a fantastic job. Smith has only returned to the team. We have not even thought about it and neither discussed it in the board meeting.
He said, 'We are just happy that (Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft) are back. Our job is to bring the boys into the team and play them properly, which they are doing. Tim Paine was made the captain of the Test team after Smith was banned in the ball tempering case.
The CA chairman also said, 'We are very happy that they have returned to the team and are doing well. Tim (Penn) is actually captaining very well. Making Smith captain again is not in our agenda.
