All-rounder Ben Stokes, who contributed to England's win over New Zealand in the World Cup final, has been nominated for 'New Zealander of the Year'. That is, England's Stokes, who won the World Cup from New Zealand, is in the race for this prestigious honor. New Zealand captain Ken Williamson has also been nominated for this award.
On 14 July, the England team made the final tie thanks to Stokes's impressive innings (84 not out) at Lord's. After that the super overs were also tied. After all, England's team was declared the winner on the basis of putting more boundaries into the match.
Stokes, born in New Zealand, went to England with his family at the age of 12. Gerrard, who played in Rugby League for New Zealand, was then coaching in England. Since then, Stokes has been living in England, although his parents Gerard and Deb turned back to Christchurch.
Chief Judge Cameron Bennett of the New Zealander of the Year Award said, "Although Stokes is not playing for Black Caps, but he is born in Christchurch, where his parents live now." Cameron said that in the way Williamson kept himself standing between the final and destructive disappointment in the entire World Cup, he resonated with Kiwis.
