Violent protests broke out in some parts of Kashmir after the dreaded terrorist Zakir Rashid Bhat alias Zakir Musa was killed in an encounter at a village in Tral area of south Kashmir. Hundreds of youths took to streets and clashed with security forces. They were seen pelting stones and damaging public property at several places in the valley. Taking precautions, authorities suspended internet and mobile services and imposed curfew in some areas. However, internet services have been restored after two days. Terrorist Zakir Musa, who heads the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, grabbed headlines when he denounced Pakistan, cut ties with the banned Hizbul Mujahideen terror group and vowed his allegiance to the Al-Qaeda. Before taking up arms, Zakir Musa was a carrom player, who had represented Jammu and Kashmir at various national championships in his teenage. Inspector General of Police Swamyam Prakash Pani said the operation was conducted with utmost precaution and proper care was taken to avoid collateral damage. "He was one of the oldest militant and wanted for several terror-related crimes," Pani told PTI. Following a tip-off, police along with CRPF and Army personnel cordoned off Dadsara village in Tral area of Pulwama district. In the beginning, security forces asked him to surrender, but he opened fire at them. In retaliation, he was killed in the encounter.
