Suresh Bansal was elected MLA from Ghaziabad Assembly in 2012 from BSP. Then he had defeated Atul Garg of BJP in a close encounter, but lost in the 2017 assembly elections.

Earlier, Surendra Munni, who was declared MP candidate, has also been a former MLA. Believing political analysts, the BSP has been getting more support in comparison to the SP in Ghaziabad.
