National Green Tribunal (NGT) has said that due to the lack of waste management in Bihar, emergencies like situation may arise. At the same time, the NGT directed the Chief Secretary of Bihar to present quarterly report on the implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.

A bench headed by NGT Chairman Justice Adarsh ​​Kumar Goel ordered that at least three major cities and three major towns and three panchayats in each district can be notified in the form of model cities, towns or villages. These places will be fully followed in respect of the relevant rules in the next six months. Rules can be fully implemented within one year in remaining cities, towns and village panchayats.

The bench asked Chief Secretary to submit a quarterly report every three months. The bench has asked the first report to be submitted by June 30. The Tribunal instructed the Chief Secretary to personally review the progress. The bench also said that the concerned officers can be given the necessary training.
