The death toll from Cyclone Amphan in West Bengal rose to 86 on Saturday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. The super cyclone hit the Indian coast on Wednesday destroyed thousands of homes in the low-lying areas and left many cities in the dark without power supply and mobile network.

On Monday , even after 7days of the city is still in dark . People left homes to protest against administration to provide essential services like phones and electricity. Basic supplies remained suspended afer seventh day.

The protesters alleged that neither the civic body nor the power supply utility was answering their calls.  By the evening, protests spread leading to road blockade in several parts of the city .

According to Calcutta Municipal Corporation the super cyclone has uprooted over 5000 trees on record, cutting power supplies and overturning cars and buildings.

About 1.5 crore people of the state have been directly affected by the cyclone and more than 10 lakh houses have been destroyed.

Although electricity and mobile connections were restored in Kolkata and parts of the North and South 24 Parganas districts, many areas remained in the dark.
